Dévoiler et masquer les émotions dans le discours politique : analyse des réactions numériques à une insulte sexiste en Turquie

Duygu Öztin

This study examines how emotions are expressed and masked in Turkish political discourse. Focusing on the June 1, 2022 speech during the Gezi anniversary, in which the President insulted female protesters, the corpus consists of YouTube comments reacting to the statement. The analysis compares discourses supporting or rejecting the insult to explore the rhetorical and argumentative functions of verbal violence, the role of emotional expression, and its variation according to the speaker’s gender. It also investigates how such public reactions reveal social tensions and the mechanisms of persuasion in political communication. The study contributes to understanding the strategic management of emotions in contemporary political discourse.
