Comment traduire l’argot d’un auteur imaginaire ?

The story of Vernon Sullivan is a particularly intricate and exciting chapter in 20th-century French literature, as the novels written under this pseudonym are not only complex from a literary-historical perspective, but also intriguing in terms of their storylines and language. Translating Vernon Sullivan's novels presents an exciting challenge for translators. Since the novels are rich in colloquial language and slang expressions, translators must utilize all their creativity and skill to compensate for any losses that may occur in translation. At the same time, the success of a translation is subject to time, as translations “age”. In our article, we will therefore also examine what makes retranslation necessary and how retranslation can improve on the shortcomings of the previous text.
