L’argot du crime dans les néo-polars de Rachid Santaki : les vestiges du langage de la pègre dans le français contemporain des cités

Olga Stepanova Desfeux

The research explores the use of slang in the crime novels of Rachid Santaki, a French author of Maghrebi origin, who sets his narratives in the peripheral urban spaces of the suburbs and highlights the social and psychological realities of crime. A historical approach is combined with a sociolinguistic study focused on the sources of lexical innovation, such as the use of verlan, borrowings, and figurative extensions of meaning, and the contexts in which this language is employed. The study also raises the question of whether slang remains a conventional element of a literary genre or becomes a distinctive feature of the author’s individual style.
