L’image de la femme dans les séries télévisées turques : l’exemple de Kadın (fr. La femme) et Yasak Elma (fr. La pomme défendue)
Özge Sönmez
The concept of gender has become a major field of research. Media and mass communication disseminate it through specific codes, often shaping audiences openly or implicitly. Television dramas, whether inspired by real events or constructing imagined realities, mirror the worldview, cultural codes, lifestyle, and gender perceptions of their society. Thus, female and male identities, together with family, professional, and social life, require closer examination.
In Turkey, television dramas—emerging in 1974 and expanding rapidly since the 2000s—have achieved significant international recognition in the past 15 years. This study focuses on Kadın (Woman) (2017–2020) and Yasak Elma (Forbidden Apple) (2018–2023), analyzing the representation of female identity. The initial and final states of the main women characters, narrative structures, modalities, and actants will be examined, with particular attention to their representation across different spaces and the subject–space relationship. The aim is to make visible the codes of gender roles and representations of female identity in Turkish dramas. The comparative analysis will demonstrate, through concrete examples, the social, cultural, and class-based roles attributed to women within fictional realities.
