L’altérité et ses limites dans le réseau épistolaire des écrivains naturalistes

Corina Sandu

This article studies the correspondence of French Naturalist writers from the perspective of the discourse analysis and the theory of enunciation. By addressing otherness as a key-concept in a communication imposed by the rules of epistolarity, we consider the Other in its configuration allowed by the circulation of the Naturalists’ letters not only within the confraternal network of the Médan group, but also outside this Naturalist epistolary circle. Our perspective on this unique epistolary network of the Naturalist writers that assumes and exceeds the principles of sociability and literariness allows us to consider otherness in a polyphonic way: the self as other and the other as self, configured in a network that makes itself known through various degrees of otherness.
