Les argots bulgares – identités et évolution

Gueorgui Armianov

The article examines the linguistic and social identity of Bulgarian slang from the end of the 19th century to the present day. Particular attention is given to the three primary types: the secret slang of craftsmen, the secret slang of criminals and the corporate slang of young Bulgarians. The study also investigates the social transformations, as well as the social changes and the social perception of slang speakers from the first mentions of Bulgarian slang in the nineteenth century, through the turbulence of the twentieth century, to the present day. Each type is illustrated by examples taken from recorded stories and dialogues, documents and informal conversations. Specific contacts with foreign languages and regional dialects and their impacts on Bulgarian slang are also reviewed.
