La traduction du registre familier dans les textes de vulgarisation scientifique de László Mérő

Jean-Léon Muller

The mathematician, psychologist and popular science author László Mérő is used to adding familiar or slang expressions or terms to his texts. This article aims to discuss the translation problems that arise from this mixing of quite different language levels. If he tries to remain too faithful to the source text, the translator often limits himself and takes the risk of dulling it. The discussion seeks to show how compensation can be used to avoid loss of source effect resulting from overly cautious translation choices.
