La fonction esthétique de l’argot chez Aya Nakamura : entre reconnaissance et mystère

Juliette Hubert

This article addresses Aya Nakamura’s slang in four of her most popular songs: « Comportement », « Djadja », « Copines » and « Pookie ». It has indeed been deemed to be the key to her success, as much among young people, who are liable to understand it, as among foreigners who cannot. We addressed the question of the link between her slang and her success, through the idea of a subliminal complexity, as it is developed by Agnès Gayraud: her slang would indeed be one of the keys to her success, not only because it is difficult to understand but also because it is difficult to understand what, exactly, escapes our understanding. Indeed, her slang is based on original topics and syntax, it is also at the center of larger phenomena of vagueness in which her words and phrases have multiple meanings. Finally, one can say that Nakamura’s slang is not limited to the text but that it is greatly emphasized by her musical choices, if not included in a form of musical slang.
