Identité(s) marginale(s) dans Fief de David Lopez

Máté Kovács

David Lopez’s first novel published in 2017, Fief features a group of friends who live somewhere between the suburbs and the countryside and whose aim in life is to kill time. Jonas, the narrator, and his friends Ixe, Poto, Untel, Sucré, Lahuiss and others, these figures who are neither middle-class children nor city toughs live in an in-between where nothing happens. Their fief is above all a language that abounds in non-standard linguistic elements of all kinds. The aim of this paper is to study how these peripheral language varieties contribute to the construction of a marginal identity in the novel.
