Traduire l’argot dans le roman de la Première Guerre mondiale : possibilités et contraintes

The research focuses on translation techniques of WWI trench slang used in French novels. Its purpose is to explore translation constraints and strategies in order to overcome them. The translator of a war novel aims to preserve not only the meaning and the writing style of the source text but also particularities of the historical pe riod. The First World War brought together solders from various continents who developed words of their own, trench slang as it is called. The differences between languages and cultural norms force the translator to find ways to adapt the source text to th e target text reader.
