Tourgueniev interprète ou la quête de vérité à l’épreuve des barrières linguistiques
Comprendre le rôle et les motivations de Tourgueniev dans les échanges culturels et linguistiques entre la Russie et la France de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle
Anastasia Spiák-Didour
We propose to analyse Turgenev's intellectual journey as a quest for truth through the permanent creation of a dialogue that was both internal and intercultural between his country of origin and his country of adoption. As a writer and a translator, he worked to solve mutual misunderstandings and misrepresentations, aggravated by the lack of good literary translation. How and why did he (re)reconcile rich and complex otherness? We shall begin by setting out a few biographical milestones, focusing on how Turgenev was perceived by his French contemporaries. Then we will attempt to explain his last and symbolic story, "A Fire at Sea" illustrating the crucial role of otherness in his work.
