Le je, le moi et l’autre
Une crise du Moi dans la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle

Delphine Jayot

In this article, we aim to investigate what can be termed "a crisis of the Ego" during the second half of the 19th century and its impact on a renewed perception of otherness. We shall rest our analysis on the example of three writers, Baudelaire, Flaubert and Rimbaud, who invented, in their respective poetics, a new interface of the I, the ego and the other. Three aphorisms--Baudelaire's "Vaporisation and concentration of the Ego", Flaubert's "No writing of oneself", and Rimbaud's "I is someone else "--will be the milestones in our investigation.
